In St. Michael's Cave in Gibraltar, there are traces of first human settlement that are around 40,000 years old. There is also a small lake with very clear water at the bottom of the cave. Finds such as sherds, arrowheads, jewellery and a stone bowl are about 6,000 years old. The entrance is about halfway from the base of the rock to the top and can be reached by cable car, car or on foot. This cave is also used for music events. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Michael%27s_Cave
The caves are impressive and beautifully lit, and there is even an underground music and dance festival in an amphitheatre-like cave chamber.

Starting near the lighthouse of Torre del Mar, the palm-lined promenade leads past the port of Caleta de Velez and the beaches of Algarrobo-Costa to the end of the neighbouring village of Mezquitilla. In the morning hours, joggers, walkers and runners take advantage of the sporting opportunity, and in the evening hours, people stroll along, often with their dogs. It is about 5 km from Algarrobo-Costa to Torre del Mar.
Here you will find good Spanish cuisine with many fish and meat dishes and delicious red wines, plus regular flamenco evenings at Restaurante La Viuda in Mezquitilla.

In the mountains behind the coast there are many beautiful whitewashed mountain villages. Algarrobo (pueblo), Compéta, Canillas de Aceituno, Frigiliana or Mijas are examples.
Algarrobo is 3-4 km from the coast. The Escalera del Cielo (Stairway to Heaven) leads steeply up to the highest point of the village, where the small church is located. It is surrounded by an idyllic garden. A little below the garden is the cemetery. From the garden and the vantage point you can see all the way to the sea.
Frigiliana, about 6 km north of Nerja, is very picturesque. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages on the Costa del Sol. The Garden Restaurant El Jardin is located slightly above the village. On a garden terrace on the hillside, very tasty Spanish dishes and tapas are served in a relaxed atmosphere. The great view over the town and the countryside down to the sea comes free of charge.
Arrival via the A7, exit 292 direction MA5105.
The town of Canillas de Aceituno is of Moorish origin and is located in the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda. Nearby is Pico Maroma, which is the highest mountain in the province of Málaga. In the mountains, to the east of Canillas, there is a rather hidden access from the MA126 to an idyllic rest area shaded by pine trees. From there you reach the entrance to a water-bearing gorge carved into the rock by the waters of the Almanchares, which, depending on the water level, offers the possibility of climbing up into various cool pools of water, especially in summer. Caution: during rainfall, it can be dangerous in some places due to the increased water
Approx. 50 km behind Málaga and shortly after Velez Málaga lies the green reservoir, which is usually not completely filled due to the low rainfall and the increasing water consumption in the region. Here you can either swim, walk around the lake or stop at the excellent reservoir hotel (Viñuela Hotel) and restaurant and eat very well.
Embalse de la Viñuela, 29712 Viuñela
With approx. 275 berths, a draught of 3.80m and space for boats up to 25m in length, the port of Caleta is very busy all year round. Originally it was a pure fishing harbour, but today pleasure boats and yachts dominate. Nevertheless, the remaining fishing fleet supplies the fish that is popular in the region. There are two restaurants from where you have a nice view of the boats and yachts. The harbour can be easily reached on foot via the promenade.
