Souvenirs from Andalusia
for home, family or friends
What can I bring with me?
In addition to sherry, brandy and cigarettes, which are also easy to buy at Malaga airport, there are various other popular souvenirs.
Here are a few suggestions that are not exhaustive.
Legal and tasty or beautiful to look at ...
- Almendras: almonds from the region. The trees not only have beautiful flowers, the almond (salted) also tastes good and is a healthy snack.
- Local olives and olive oil. Grown, harvested and cold pressed on site. They come in jars and cans, cored and filled in various ways. Which is your favorite variety?
- Jamón Serrano: Air-dried Spanish ham. If you can't take a whole ham with you, you can simply cut a few fresh slices and pack them up. In any case, it tastes better than the pre-packaged packages in the supermarket, which often contain preservatives.
- Málaga wine: Typical are "Málaga Dulce" or "Lagrima", mostly made from the Pedro Ximenes grape or Muscatel
- Moscatel wine from Compéta. The vines on the slopes can be seen from the road.
- Ron Montero: Rum from Motril, high proof made from sugar cane. E.g. RON FRANCISCO MONTERO. https://tienda.ronmontero.com/ron-francisco-montero/
- Gin Larrios from Málaga - there are different flavors. https://larios-gin.de/larios_gin/gin-mediterranea/

- Sherry: From Jerez de la Frontera. There are different types (e.g. Fino, Manzanilla, Oloroso, etc.) and manufacturers or brands: Gonzales Byas (Tio Pepe), Domecq (La Ina), Osborne, etc.
- Brandy: Made from the sherry. Well-known examples are Carlos I, Lepanto, Veterano, Cardenal Mendoza
- Turrones: Bar-shaped sweets made from chocolate, nougart or Turkish honey with almonds, for example
- Polverones: small wrapped crumbly cakes in different flavors
- Figuritas de Marzapan: small marzipan figurines baked in the oven - divine if you like marzipan
- Tortillas de Algarrobo: small aniseed cakes in the form of a cookie, very tasty but rich
- Miel de Caña: Sugar cane syrup from the region, is also served with fried aubergines
- Hand-painted ceramics, for example as a fruit bowl, from the Granada region, with motifs that partly go back to Moorish origins
- Spanish fans (Abanicos), to be fanned out, made of wood or plastic, painted or embroidered
- Wood inlay from Granada, for example as a jewelry box or casket
Fairs and Festivities
Holy Week - Semana Santa
Holy Week with parades and processions is always worth seeing. The local statues of saints are solemnly carried out of the churches and through the town. The penitent penitents stand or walk under the heavy carrying frames, often in the special penitent costume with the pointed hats.
Fairs / Malaga Fair / Seville Fair
Fairs with carousels and stalls have a long tradition in Andalusia. The largest event on the Costa del Sol is the Feria de Málaga, but the most famous, colorful and eye-catching is the Feria de Sevilla. Due to the many carriages, horses, caballeros and Sevillana-dancing women, traditionally dressed in colorful flamenco robes, it is an unforgettable experience. In the smaller towns there is also celebrations, often with carousels and stalls, but without carriages or riders and less of the traditional costumes.
